The Stevan Jovetic Rejuvenation

Arriving from Fiorentina for £22 million at the start of last year’s summer transfer window, Stevan Jovetic bagged 27 goals and delivered 11 assists in 58 league games, in his final couple of terms at the Italian club.
He joined former Fiorentina team-mate and close friend, Matija Nastasic at Manchester City.
On the international front he has appeared for the senior side on 30 occasions, finding the net 12 times. The Montenegrin looked a shrewd purchase by Manuel Pellegrini but he was ultimately plagued with injuries, which curtailed his debut season at the Etihad.
Often operating behind the centre-forward, Jovetic is an adaptable player who has the talent to play in a number of offensive situations under Pellegrini.
Alvaro Negredo is currently on the sidelines, Sergio Aguero has muscular issues, plus yet to return from holiday and Edin Dzeko is the archetypal centre-forward. This is the time for the Montenegro international to show his worth, and by putting his injury problems behind him; he can become an important player for the Citizens.
During pre-season thus far, Jovetic has netted 5 times and is already displaying signs of transformation. His partnership with Dzeko has gained plaudits from fans and media alike. It’s worth noting that their combinations are beginning to thrive. If Jovetic continues to exhibit his superb awareness when observing a chance to capitalize on, he could score 15-20 goals this season.
Pellegrini’s tendency for a 4-2-2-2 formation should make Jovetic a leading candidate to start up front. The boss recently voiced his assurances ahead of the upcoming season that Jovetic will get an opportunity to play a key part. He also dismissed speculation that his forward will return to Italy. The rumour mill can wave goodbye to those claims.
Jovetic isn’t a natural finisher, but he has a knack of being in the right place at the right time, that’s why he scores so often. In my opinion, he should get the nod to spearhead the attack alongside Dzeko, against Arsenal in the Community Shield.
A role at No. 10 or even on the left flank is conceivable, due to his above-mentioned versatility. If the Chilean opts for a 4-2-3-1 set up, Jovetic should slot in any of the 3 attacking positions, or even up top. However, his skillfulness on and off the ball and penchant for the picture-perfect pass are his best attributes, which are suited in a reserved, playmaker spot.
Jovetic is calm, composed and collected when put through on goal, one-on-one. He’s no stranger to the score sheet. That’s his top trait and I believe his finest performances are imminent. He has played in various systems, but this time round I expect he will cement a starting berth up front, for the foreseeable future.
