Eastside Goon: Newcastle Nuisance

It seems like Arteta went for some strategic changes. Luiz and Willian return into the first team which is not that surprising given the competition – and a good opportunity for these suspects to put in a decent performance. I thought we might be having a Partey tonight but I guessing Arteta didn’t think he was quite ready to return. Willock got a well deserved start after knocking on the door for the past few weeks. I heard Martinelli got a slight injury in the warm up. I just hope the wonder-kid is ok. With all these changes there’s no surprise that the chemistry dropped in the first half. Apart from the infamous M10, it seemed like Emile-Smith Rowe was the only man that could make a creative difference in the final third. The second half proved my theory correct with Smith Rowe and Saka coming on to improve this stiff team. And we improved our play towards the end of the game but it still was not enough. After a scandalous end to the game, VAR finally helped us out. Its a good thing Smith-Rowe buss case because he come in clutch yet again in the second half of extra time. Great impact from Xhaka keeping it ticking and lacazette too with good general play and an assist. Arteta’s subs were simply a revert to the team that has been winning over the past few weeks. Shock. Hopefully, Partey gets a start against Palace next Thursday, and Willian and Luiz stay on the bench. It was always gonna be a tough fixture…but we move. Bring on the next round.
